Mr. Grant "Lil Grant" Long

Grant Long III, affectionately known to many as “Lil Grant,” was born on February 14, 1964, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Grant Long and the late Pearlie Jean Humbert Long. Grant was educated in the Lee County School District. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Mound City Missionary Baptist Church. His faith remained important throughout his life, and on September 1, 2026, Grant was baptized again, reaffirming his faith in Christ. On May 12, 1995, Grant was united in marriage to Essie Taylor Long. Their marriage became an important part of the life and family that Grant valued so deeply. Grant was an outspoken man who was never afraid to speak his mind. He stood firmly on what he believed and carried himself with confidence, determination, and conviction. Those who knew Grant knew exactly where he stood. He had his own way of looking at life, and once he believed in something, he stood on it. A self-made businessman, Grant was the proud owner of D&M Trucking. Through hard work, determination, and an independent spirit, he built a business of his own and took great pride in what he accomplished. Grant also knew how to enjoy life. He had a special love for his Corvette, affectionately known as “MoreFun,” and he enjoyed spending time at the Waffle House, sharing meals, conversations, and laughter with his friends. Grant seemed to know everybody, and his family often joked that he knew everybody and everything. His personality, conversations, opinions, and unmistakable presence made him one of a kind. More than anything, Grant truly believed in family. Family was at the center of his life. He enjoyed being surrounded by those he loved and valued the relationships he shared with his relatives and friends. Grant loved deeply, protected those he considered his own, and believed that family extended beyond blood. On Monday, September 14, 2026, Grant departed this life at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Although his earthly journey came to an end, the life he lived and the memories he created will remain with those who knew and loved him. Grant was preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie Jean Humbert Long; his sister, Barbara Jean Long; and his son, Monterey Mitchell. Grant leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Essie Taylor Long; his father, Grant (Glovia) Long; his children, Grant Lawson, Demetrius Roebuck (Charday), Grannett Rogers, Demario Roebuck (Vidie), Destiny Long, and Malik Long; Marcus Taylor, whom Grant raised and loved as his own; Kyriee, whom Grant lovingly embraced and regarded as his own child; Vince (Renita) Meridy; Pierrette (Kenneth) Branch; his grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, extended family members, business associates, friends, and all whose lives were touched by him.
