Mrs. Marie Sharmaine Williams Mathis

Marie Sharmaine Williams was born November 28, 1947, in Forrest City, Arkansas to the late Booker T. Williams and Daisy Anna Hamilton Williams. Marie attended Lincoln High School as a student in the Class of 1965, although she completed her general high school education in Chicago, IL. During her time in Chicago, IL, she worked as a driver for MATA and held a security position at the Illinois DHS Family Community Resource Center in Cook County. Following many years, she relocated to Forrest City, Arkansas, and furthered her education by obtaining certifications at Crowley’s Ridge Technical Institute in Accounting and Interior Decorating. She was employed by TA Earle | TravelCenters of America for 19 years, until her retirement, after which she established her own family business, Sunrise Mini Mart and Mathis Circle Apartment Complex. Marie devoted her life to Christ at a young age, initially at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church under Reverend Lee Hamilton, Sr.'s pastoral leadership. She later became a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, serving under the leadership of Pastor Oscar Jones and presently under Pastor V.L. Faulkner. Within the church, Marie held various positions, including treasurer, secretary, choir member, and apart of the kitchen hospitality team. Her compassionate demeanor made everyone feel valued, and she consistently greeted others with a warm smile and affectionate words. Marie's hobbies included fishing, cooking, and decorating, particularly during Christmas, as well as tending to her yard and flowers. On January 8, 1986, she married her soulmate, Troy Lee Mathis, Jr., and remained faithful to him until his demise. Marie passed away on March 15, 2025, at Forrest City Medical Center in Forrest City, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents Booker T. Williams and Daisy Anna Hamilton Williams; and husband, Troy Lee Mathis, Jr. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Darrell D. (Gloria) Black of Morehead City, NC and Undra House of Morehead City, NC; grandchildren, LaCrita R. Rogers of Forrest City, AR, Samuel Wilson and Steven Wilson of Havelock, NC and Lamar Teel of Jacksonville, NC; her greatgrandson whom she adored and depended on to answer her every call, Keneran “KJ” Ferrell, and a host of greatgrandchildren; one sister, Joyce Adams of Michigan; special sister, Barbara Ann Williams of Forrest City, AR; friend of the family, Valrie Washington of Forrest City, AR; special friend, Harold “Buddy” Cottrell, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
