Mr. Gregory Lynn Smith

Gregory Lynn Smith was born on August 23, 1981, in Forrest City, Arkansas, to Bessie Mae Doyle and the late Leroy Smith. Gregory was blessed to be part of a large and loving family, where the values of family, hard work, loyalty, and caring for one another became an important part of his upbringing. At an early age, Gregory accepted Christ at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Lee Hamilton, Sr. His Christian foundation and the relationships formed during his youth remained a meaningful part of his life. Gregory was educated in the Forrest City School District and proudly graduated from Forrest City High School with the Class of 1999. During his high school years, he played basketball and developed a lifelong love for sports. Gregory was also a proud brother of Omega Diamond – Tau Mu Rho Chapter, a brotherhood he valued and represented with pride. Following high school, Gregory relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan, where he lived until 2008 and worked in management. In 2008, he returned home to Forrest City and continued his career in restaurant management. Gregory possessed a strong work ethic and took pride in being a dependable and hardworking man. On May 25, 2013, Gregory was united in marriage to Remona Marie Dawson in Forrest City, Arkansas. Their marriage was officiated by Reverend Lee Hamilton, Jr. Their union became an important part of Gregory’s life, and together they shared the joys, challenges, experiences, and memories that accompany life’s journey. In 2021, Gregory relocated to Dallas, Texas, where he continued his professional career. He was employed by Central Transport and later by Saia, continuing the strong work ethic that characterized him throughout his adult life. Gregory was a man who enjoyed life and the company of others. He loved having a good time, laughing, spending time with family and friends, and simply enjoying the moments that brought people together. His personality allowed him to develop lasting relationships with family members, friends, coworkers, classmates, and countless others who came to know and appreciate him. No matter where life took him, Gregory maintained a special love for his hometown of Forrest City, Arkansas. Forrest City was more than the place of his birth; it was home. It was where many of his earliest friendships were formed, where he attended school, where his family roots ran deep, and where countless memories were made. Gregory was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan. His enthusiasm for the Bills was unmistakable, and those closest to him knew just how seriously he supported his team. Football brought him tremendous enjoyment, and his devotion to the Buffalo Bills became one of the many things family and friends will fondly remember about him. Above all else, Gregory was a family man. He loved his family deeply and shared a special bond with his brothers and sisters. He was a treasured part of a large family whose roots extended from Arkansas to Texas and throughout the country. The relationships he nurtured, the memories he created, and the love he shared will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. On Thursday, July 23, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, Gregory completed his earthly journey at the age of 44. His passing leaves an undeniable void in the lives of those who loved him. However, his family finds comfort in the many years, experiences, laughter, and precious memories they were blessed to share with him. Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Smith; his brother, Leroy “Shooty” Doyle; his sister, Pamela LaShay Fields; his paternal grandparents, John Lee Smith and Cloteal Smith; and his maternal grandparents, Iola Doyle and Juster “Big Daddy” Doyle. Gregory leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Remona Dawson-Smith; his loving mother, Bessie Mae Smith; his mother-in-law, Linda Lynch; and his sisters and brothers: Teresa (Wash) Sinclair, Charlotte M. Smith, Martha G. McGraw, Sharon L. Houston (Kendrick), Aundra Smith, Vernon L. (Iesha) Smith, Deadrick E. Smith, and Rafael D. Smith. Gregory also leaves to cherish his memory a loving host of nieces and nephews: Quinten Sinclair, Sharnette Smith, Kristopher Sinclair, Bre’Anna Sinclair, Andreana Smith, Elijah Smith, Kennedy Maxwell, A’londre’ Caldwell, Jeremiah Jones, Bobby T. Malone III, Azarria Malone, Da’Ryaa Kirkwood, Paizlee Davis, Erynn Williams, and Evonn Williams. He further leaves to cherish his memory his father-in-law; a host of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; great-nieces and great-nephews; aunts and uncles; cousins; extended family members; classmates; fraternity brothers; coworkers; and many dear friends, each of whom carries special memories of Gregory and the unique place he held in their lives.
