Mrs. Geraldine Burton Pledger

Geraldine Pledger graced this world on March 15, 1938, in Heth, AR, as the cherished second child of Willie and Jessie Mae Sykes. Geraldine peacefully transitioned from this life on July 4th, 2024, leaving a legacy of compassion and wisdom that will forever be held in our hearts. From her humble beginnings in Heth, AR, she lived a life dedicated to loving and nurturing her family and many others who had the privilege of knowing her. Geraldine's spiritual journey began at a tender age when she joyfully accepted Christ into her heart as a member of First Baptist Church in Heth, AR. From that transformative moment onward, her faith blossomed like a radiant garden, guiding her path with unwavering grace and devotion. Throughout most of her earthly journey, Geraldine walked closely with Christ as a devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church. She joyously shared her love for God with others, faithfully serving on both the Usher Board and Mother Board, while embodying the true spirit of Christian fellowship and service. Geraldine was a proud graduate of Mildred Jackson High School. In life, she poured her heart into the things that she loved. As a mother, she embraced her role as a homemaker, offering steadfast support to her children until her final days. Cooking for her children was one of Geraldine’s favorite activities, and she was celebrated for her scrumptious sweet potato pies, a coveted delight that often-sparked friendly rivalries among her many children and grandchildren, each eager to claim a slice to savor. Moreover, she especially enjoyed heading to the fishing hole with her good friend Marie Brown, particularly when the weather was nice; it was one of her favorite ways to unwind and embrace nature. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her two daughters, Evelyn Doolittle and Cynthia Phillips of Forrest City, AR; seven sons: Herschel (Rhonda) Pledger of Jacksonville, AR; Leevell (Sheirl) Pledger of Oklahoma City, OK; Earl Pernell (Gloria) Pledger of Ypsilanti, MI; Othello Burton of West Memphis, AR; Donnie (Mallissia) Burton of Jacksonville, FL; Durall Burton of Heth, AR; Tyrone (Wendy) Burton of West Memphis, AR; three sisters: Barbara Sykes of Chicago, IL; Joyce Brown of Heth, AR; Mildred (Henry) Brice of Chicago, IL; 25 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. Geraldine leaves a host of children (grandchildren, great-grandchildren), whom she did not give the gift of life, but life graciously gifted her; she loved them dearly. She also leaves a large host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Geraldine was preceded in death by her beloved Elijah Burton (BoPeep), her parents, and five siblings: Joseph Sykes, Uester (Jack) Sykes, Douglas Sykes, Robert Sykes, and Shirley Jackson.
